In 1999, the two Congregations of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word-San Antonio and Houston-joined their health care systems to form CHRISTUS Health, for a single purpose: to provide better care for the people they serve.
Sharing a common heritage and ministry, their mission (now the Mission of CHRISTUS Health) to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ flows from the founding call and vision of Bishop Dubuis: “Our Lord Jesus Christ, suffering in the persons of a multitude of the sick and infirm of every kind… seeks relief at your hands.” Ranked among the top 10 Catholic health systems in the United States by size, the CHRISTUS Health system includes more than 40 hospitals and facilities in six American states and Mexico.
In Peru, the Santa Clara Clinic, founded by the Sisters, has been serving the poor in Chimbote for the last 42 years. Its mission is to serve the sick-“to actualize the saving and healing love of the Incarnate Word by promoting human dignity today.”
The Hospice in Santiago Apostol is a relatively new mission of the Sisters. The Hospice cares for and supports persons who are suffering from a terminal illness, and accompanies them by alleviating their pain and suffering, to the end of their earthly lives
